Chemicals and Devices Shortages: Impacts to the Life Sciences Industry
The life sciences industry is currently being impacted by disruptions and raw materials shortages caused primarily by the lockdown and logistics crisis in China. Some supply shortages include PPE materials, single-use systems, drug shortages, medical devices, and components. Mass vaccination efforts have impacted the needles and syringes supplies while the US healthcare industry is also troubled with shortages that include dialysis-related products, imaging machines, defibrillators, and more. In addition, hospitals across the US are facing a shortage of chemicals used in imaging services mainly due to the disrupted production at GE Healthcare’s facility in Shanghai. While the life sciences industry in China is observing an increase in leasing demand in Shanghai, they could be impacted by investors holding or pulling out of China due to the zero Covid policy.
