New Semiconductor Export Controls: Expert Analysis and Top Impacts
Following the US chip export controls, the Netherlands and Japan have also agreed to soon limit China’s access to advanced semiconductor machinery. Potentially impacted companies include ASML, Nikon, Advantest Corp, Lasertec Corp, and more. With the new restrictions, ASML, the leader in the lithography technology industry, will not be able to sell its extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUV) machines to China. Furthermore, some of its deep ultraviolet lithography machines, critical to advanced chip making may also be impacted. To counter the impact of these sanctions, China is working on a $143 billion support package for its semiconductor industry. However, with intensifying uncertainty in the chip supply chains, the big question is, what immediate steps should companies take to mitigate its impacts to their supply chains?
