Supply Chain Risk Experts to Review Compliance Progress, Best Practices, and Reporting Technology Developments

Milpitas, CA – November 30, 2015. Since the SEC adopted the 2012 provision to require public companies to publicly disclose conflict minerals used in the production of their products, supply chain and risk management professionals have scrambled to come up to speed quickly on the business implications and compliance requirements. The new and evolving regulations put the track-and-trace and annual reporting burden for the red-flag “3TG” minerals frequently used in their products and production processes (tungsten, tantalum, tin, and gold) squarely on them, and it hasn’t been an easy learning curve.

The June 1, 2015 filing deadline brought year two of conflict minerals reporting to a close. While it is apparent that companies have made progress in structuring their programs and filings, much work remains on establishing industry-wide “3TG” transparency, as intended by the Conflict Minerals Rule. Adding to this challenge now is the uncertainty being created by ongoing litigation surrounding key reporting and disclosure requirements.
